The The Atlantic Philanthropies & Philanthropy New York revisit a story of race, injustice, and media frenzy with Justice Delayed, a conversation with filmmakers Sarah Burns and David McMahon about their new documentary The Central Park Five. The film, made with acclaimed director Ken Burns, reflects on issues of discrimination and abuse within our courts and the violent atmosphere of New York City in the 1980s.

The Central Park Five were a group of teenagers wrongly convicted for the assault and rape of Trisha Meili in the spring of 1989. Defendants Yusef Salaam and Antron McCray, then 15 years old, and Raymond Santana,14, received a maximum sentence and served 12 years before being acquitted in 2002 on new DNA evidence.

Watch Justice Delayed live today, when Santana describes the Central Park Jogger case in his own words. Salaam also spoke at the second Black Male: Reimagined conference, remembering how they were dehumanized and demonized as “the other” by the press.
